Almost Home Canine Rescue was founded in Madison, SD. In Early 2018, the group was reestablished in the Sioux Falls, SD area by a group of passionate animal lovers. While we will now be based in Sioux Falls, we will continue to have a large presence in Madison through community events and assisting the Madison Animal Shelter. AHCR is a 501c3 non-profit organization that is 100% volunteer-run and serves to help abandoned animals find new homes. Just as every dog and cat has needs that our mission works to fulfill so do our donors, volunteers, fosters and adopters. All involved play a vital role in the success of our mission no matter their gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, age, sexual orientation or identity, education or disability.
Last year, primarily through this grant, we were able to prevent the birth of 6585 unwanted puppies and kittens. Almost Home Dog Rescue is dedicated finding the best possible home for all the pets in our care. We are dedicated to helping each adoptive family find the newest member of the family that will best meet the family's and the pet's needs and life style.
Adoptable Dogs
Please call your vet and confirm that your animals are current on their vaccinations PRIOR to completing the application. Please know that listing interest does not guarantee that you will adopt that animal. At Almost Home Dog Rescue, we’re running on dog time. We live dogs, we love dogs, and we like to learn about them. Neutered/spayed pets are less aggressive, less likely to fight, and less likely to bite, as documented in studies.
We want this adoption to be successful, and we always are here to give advice and offer assistance. Please do not hesitate to email us at with any questions or concerns. If you plan on moving, taking a trip, or have major life events coming up, please wait and apply AFTER those events have occurred. Almost Home receives grant!
Later that day Angel suprised all of us by improving and becoming more alert! She was sent home on a strict feeding schedule; Angel must be handfed every 2-3 hours and have a heating pad available at all times to keep her body temperature up. Please make a note that your donation is for the Capital Fund.

We are not here to judge your home, just trying to ensure the safety of our dogs and making sure its the proper fit! PLEASE NOTE, WE DO NOT BRING DOGS ALONG TO HOME VISITS. The application, as well as the home visit must both be completed and approved before a dog can be met. Please note, adoption fees are non-refundable if the dog needs to be returned for any reason.
